SWICO Launches Uganda’s First Dog Insurance Product

Kampala, Uganda – October 15, 2025 – In a significant event that set a new tone for collaboration in the insurance sector, Statewide Insurance Company (SWICO), in partnership with the Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda (IBAU), hosted a transformative Brokers’ CEO Breakfast at the Fairway Hotel. The event, under the theme “Driving Transformation Together: Shaping the Future of Insurance,” brought together industry leaders to chart a collaborative path forward and culminated in the historic launch of Uganda’s first-ever Dog Insurance product.

The morning was marked by a spirit of candid dialogue and a shared commitment to progress. In his opening remarks, Mr. Hamza Mutebi, Chief Executive Officer of SWICO, set the stage by outlining a renewed, broker-centric vision for the company. He emphasized that deeper collaboration is the cornerstone of future growth, announcing concrete commitments to improve turnaround times, enhance transparency, and foster co-creation on new products and digital solutions.

“Our goal is to change how we grow business together,” stated Mr. Mutebi. “We see brokers as indispensable strategic partners, and we are committed to providing the service, support, and innovation platform necessary to jointly drive the industry forward. We want to walk this journey with you.”

The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Samuel Sejjaaka, Country Business Leader at MAT ABACUS Business School, who provided a powerful and thought-provoking perspective on strategic partnerships. He challenged the audience to move “Beyond the Handshake” and confront the industry’s underlying challenges, including the need for a long-term view and building deeper trust.

“Partnership is the most overused and under-delivered word in business,” Prof. Sejjaaka noted. “True collaboration requires a fundamental mindset shift—from seeing each other as competitors to becoming co-creators of value for the vast untapped market.”

The event also featured strong endorsements from industry leaders. Mr. Paul Muhame, Chairman of IBAU, welcomed the partnership, noting, “When a broker who understands our pain moves to an insurer, it changes the conversation. We are one industry, and collaboration is the only way to elevate it for our clients.” Mr. Bernard Obel, Director of Supervision at the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA), commended the initiative, stating, “This launch is more than just a policy; it’s a symbol of progress,” while encouraging continued innovation to make insurance accessible to all Ugandans.
