SWICO has been crowned the Most Innovative Non-Life Insurance Company at the 6th Annual Insurance Innovation Awards, held on March 27, 2026, at the Kampala Serena Hotel. We received this prestigious honor for launching Uganda’s first-ever Dog Insurance product, a policy we developed to meet the unique needs of pet owners, security companies, and breeders across the country.
The awards ceremony, organized by the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA), marked the grand finale of the 5th Annual Insurance Week and was held under the theme “Future Eri Ku Sure Ne Insure.” The event brought together industry leaders, government officials, and innovators to celebrate transformative solutions reshaping Uganda’s insurance landscape.
Our Dog Insurance product, launched in October 2025, was created in response to two clear trends: rising dog ownership across Uganda and the growing sophistication of commercial dog breeding and security operations. The policy provides comprehensive coverage, including veterinary expenses for accidents and illnesses, as well as third-party liability protection, essential for security companies whose dogs may injure others while on duty.
The product is supported by a dedicated digital platform that streamlines the entire client journey, from onboarding to claims management, making it accessible via mobile devices and WhatsApp integration.
Speaking at the awards ceremony, IRA CEO Alhaj Dr. Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega noted that the awards are designed to motivate and promote sector innovation. Henry Musasizi, Minister of State for General Duties at the Ministry of Finance, who served as chief guest, revealed that Uganda’s gross written premiums have grown from UGX 1.18 trillion in 2021 to UGX 1.76 trillion in 2024, while urging the industry to continue thinking outside the box.
