SWICO and ITC Host 8th Hon. John Ssebaana Kizito Memorial Lecture in Masaka

Masaka, Uganda – 18th September 2025 – Statewide Insurance Company (SWICO), in partnership with the Insurance Training College (ITC), hosted the 8th Hon. John Ssebaana Kizito Memorial Lecture at Hotel Brovad, Masaka. The event brought together insurance leaders, business executives, and community stakeholders to celebrate the enduring legacy of Hon. John Ssebaana Kizito — a trailblazer in insurance, a respected businessman, and a distinguished politician.

Held under the theme “Embracing Insurance for Sustainable Development,” this year’s lecture underscored the pivotal role of insurance in building resilience and driving Uganda’s economic growth.

Honoring a Legacy

The Chief Guest, Dr. Alhaj Ibrahim Kaddunabbi Lubega, CEO of the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda, paid glowing tribute to the late Ssebaana for his pioneering role in establishing Uganda’s first private insurance company. He further emphasized the growing importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting within the industry and reassured stakeholders of the regulator’s commitment to supporting insurance players in aligning with global best practices.

The event also featured a thought-provoking panel discussion with leading industry and business voices:

  • Zaake Ronald – Managing Director, A-Plus Funeral Services
  • John Makosya – Chief Operations and Impact Officer, GRO Consortium (U) Ltd
  • Joseph Kiyimba – Managing Director, Ambiance Group

The panel explored the role of insurance in fostering sustainable development, the growing diversity of insurance products, and the transformative opportunities presented by agro-insurance in strengthening livelihoods and supporting Uganda’s agricultural sector.
