On Wednesday, August 14th, 2024, SWICO proudly contributed to the Road Safety campaign ‘Tofiira Ku Kkubo,’ which was recently launched at the Sheraton Hotel in Kampala. This vital initiative aims to reduce road traffic crashes in Uganda by at least 20 percent by March 2024. SWICO’s support, including a contribution of 3 million shillings, underscores the company’s dedication to safeguarding lives and promoting safety on Uganda’s roads.

The ‘Tofiira Ku Kkubo’ campaign seeks to address the alarming statistics surrounding road accidents in Uganda, where an average of 5,000 people lose their lives, and over 15,000 suffer serious injuries annually. Notably, more than 60 percent of these fatalities are young people under the age of 35. Recognizing the urgent need for action, SWICO has aligned this contribution with its broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, which emphasizes community welfare and safety.

The campaign’s multifaceted approach includes targeted awareness among motorists and cyclists, defensive driving and riding skills training, and the development of road safety sensitization materials. Additionally, a mass media campaign, road safety caravans, and sessions specifically designed for boda boda riders and passenger service vehicle drivers are planned to enhance road safety awareness across the country.

SWICO’s participation in this campaign is not just about financial support; it is a reflection of the company’s commitment to creating a safer environment for all Ugandans. By investing in initiatives like ‘Tofiira Ku Kkubo,’ SWICO continues to demonstrate its leadership in the insurance industry while actively contributing to the well-being of the communities it serves. This alignment with SWICO’s CSR strategy highlights the company’s dedication to making a tangible difference in society, particularly in areas that impact the most vulnerable members of the population.

The campaign, inaugurated by the Minister of Kampala, Hon. Minsa Kabanda, on November 19, 2023, has already garnered support from various stakeholders, and SWICO is proud to be part of this crucial movement towards a safer Uganda.
